As promised, Here is the compiled video footage from my viewpoint at today’s stage. We were standing at the intersection of Mines Road and Del Valle Road in or just outside Livermore, CA. I did edit the video due to the time lapse between the leading group, second group, and the rest of the peloton. Luckily for us, the weather was perfect and didn’t start to rain until we got back into our car.

Lance Armstrong’s Water Bottle?

Is this Lance's Bottle?

CommuterGear was indeed at the Tour of California today to watch Stage 4. We were set up just outside of Livermore at the intersection of Mines Road and Del Valle. It was definitely an exciting trip and we met some real nice people. It was an overcast day, but real nice weather. We arrived on scene at approximately 10:30 to scout the area before the racers rode through. It was near 1 o’clock in the afternoon when he action happened. A small group broke away from the peloton beforehand. As the peloton rolled in, Team RadioShack was in second place with Lance Armstrong as the Lead Rider. As Team RadioShack passed, one of them threw one of their bottles on the side of the road. And guess what? We got the bottle. It is about half full and contains what appears to be water. Its hard to tell if there is any additive to the water. (OK, I dipped my finger in the bottle for a taste) It tastes like water to me. Later, I will pour it in a glass to check the clarity. The water bottle is manufactured by Trek.

Later today we will post the race footage we collected.

Today, the AMGEN Tour of California kicked off at 11:15AM Pacific time. Today’s race (Stage 3) is estimated to last about 4 hours. Yesterday, Brett Lancaster took control of the race and became the overall leader. Brett Lancaster from the Cervelo Test team is an Australian native, 6’2″ and 175 lbs.

Today, riders are cycling from San Francisco to Sata Cruz. Here is a great video overview of today’s course.

AMGEN Tour Stage 2

AMGEN Tour Stage 2 Profile

Yesterday, Mark Cavendish sprinted to the finish line of Stage 1 in Sacramento and now gets to wear the yellow leader jersey for today. Today’s stage begins in Davis, CA at 11:00am. Davis, CA was recently voted the top bike friendly town in the U.S. and is home to the US Bicycling Hall of Fame. The Stage will end in Santa Rosa, CA after riding 109.5 miles and traversing some beautiful countryside. It is often said, that this area of Northern California holds some of the best cycling terrain in the United States.

Today, CommuterGear will be on scene alond Route 128 to snap a few photos and mayebe a short video. We will be on 128 near Pleasants Valley Road. Allergy season is in full force out here, so if you see a person sneezing while shooting photos, make sure to say hello.

Today, the AMGEN Tour of California Starts in Nevada City, California. In today’s stage, riders will race from California’a beautiful “Gold Country” to the State’s Capitol of Sacramento. CommuterGear, plans to to obtain some race photos during tomorrow’s stage.
