Previously, we discussed 5 Tips to get out the door faster. Well, one of those tips was to pack your leftovers from dinner the night before. You have to ask yourself, “What kind of food would work for this?” There are tons of tasty dinners that can be carried over for lunch the next day. Spaghetti, stew, casseroles, lasagna, brats from the grill, pizza, and lots more.
Today, I’d like to talk about one of my favorites… chili. Yes, when one talks about chili, it doesn’t conjure up a great culinary masterpiece. But, let’s take another look at this old favorite from sports and camping memories.
- Chili can be made a variety of ways, whether it be vegetarian, from ground turkey, pork, steak, or ground beef.
- Depending on the recipe, chili is generally high in fiber.
- Chili is great as a topping for other foods. Think about it.. chili dogs, chili fries, chili burgers, and the list goes on
- Along with some eggs in the morning and you have an awesome breakfast of Huevos Rancheros.
Next up is an award winning chili recipe that will make your friends jealous… jealous i tell you!

Buzz, Buzz, Buzz… That’s right, it’s time to get up and get ready for work. You ended up doing yard work and watching sports all weekend. Now, it’s time to pay. You are running around the house with a toothbrush in one hand and a cup of coffee (if your lucky) in the other.
You can handle it… here’s what you do. You have to prepare the night before. Get in a habit of doing these simple steps and you can thank me later.
- Get your clothes ready to go the night before. Or, you can organize your closet with matching shirts and pants next to each other, or better yet, put a matching shirt over a corresponding pair of slacks.
- Just buy black socks…. lots of them. I’ve often asked myself at dark, pre-dawn hours, “Is this a blue sock or black sock?” Just go out and buy a ton of all the black socks. Rotate through them and they fade all the same. They’ll all get old around the same time. When that happens, throw out the whole lot and go out and get a new batch.
- After eating dinner, throw the leftovers in a storage container. Lunch is done. What’s better than a regular old storage box? Try a new bento box. We’ve previewed a few of them in our “food gear” area. Check them out. They make anything you put in there look like a gourmet meal.
- Try shaving in the shower. Shaving in the shower gives you a better shave. Your skin is much softer and your beard is too. It has also been said that it helps your back because you are not stooping over a sink. You’ll probably want to get a mirror to throw behind the sprinkler head. I’ve experimented with a bunch of “fog-less” type mirrors only to be let down. Rubbing a tiny bit of soap on the mirror will get you by just fine. (Sorry ladies, this tip is for the guys)
- OK, I love coffee, so this tip for the other coffee lovers. Go out and get a coffee maker on a timer. Even if you don’t like coffee, most people love the smell of fresh brewed coffee. What would be better than to wake you up than a the smell of fresh brewed coffee. If tea is your thing. Start the water before you get in the shower and you’ll be set when you get out. Plus you can make it so you can have some hot water left over for your instant oatmeal.
